About Barbara Anscher

After a career practicing and teaching law, Barbara Anscher began work as an alternative dispute resolution professional in 1998. Her expertise in arbitration encompasses securities law, commercial contracts, lemon law, attorney-client fee disputes, and real estate. Her mediation experience covers real estate, landlord-tenant, commercial contracts, consumer law, and adoptions. Ms Anscher serves on arbitration panels for the Financial Industry Regulatory Agency (FINRA), the Bar Association of San Francisco, and the Better Business Bureau. Her affiliations in mediation include the Alameda County and San Francisco Superior courts and the Consortium for Children. She is experienced working with attorneys as well as self-represented litigants.

Ms. Anscher has been a member of the State Bar of California since 1986. She received her law degree from Stanford Law School (Order of the Coif) and her undergraduate degree from Stanford University. Ms. Anscher also belongs to the Association for Conflict Resolution, the Association for Dispute Resolution of Northern California, the Bar Association of San Francisco ADR section, and she served one term as a member of the Committee of Bar Examiners.

Ms. Anscher has received extensive training in arbitration from the NASD, the NYSE, the Bar Association of San Francisco, the Alameda County Bar Association, the State Bar of California, and the Better Business Bureau. She has been trained in mediation through UC Extension, San Francisco Superior Court, and Consortium for Children.

Ms. Anscher is known for her even-tempered style which puts people at ease. She mainly uses a facilitative approach to mediation, but will also engage an evaluative approach when necessary to the success of the mediation.
